BYD Karachi Marathon 2027: 10 Women to Benefit from MMC’s Powerful She Runs Initiative
Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official partner of BYD in Pakistan, has renewed its partnership with the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027 for the second consecutive year. The collaboration reinforces the company’s commitment to promoting running, supporting local athletic talent and making sports more inclusive across Pakistan.
As part of the renewed partnership, MMC will introduce She Runs, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at encouraging women to participate in marathon running. The programme will provide structured training and professional support to 10 selected women from Karachi ahead of the marathon, scheduled for January 3, 2027.
BYD Karachi Marathon 2027 to Promote Inclusive Running
The BYD Karachi Marathon is Pakistan’s first World Athletics-Certified marathon, bringing together local and international runners while giving Pakistani athletes an opportunity to compete under internationally recognised standards.
Through its Vision 2032, the marathon aims to develop a pathway for Pakistani runners to qualify for major international marathon events and, ultimately, the Olympic Games. The initiative reflects a broader ambition to establish running as a mainstream sport and create more opportunities for athletes to compete internationally.
The 2027 edition will feature four race categories: the full marathon, half marathon, relay and 5K. Organisers are also introducing a category for differently abled participants, further strengthening the event’s focus on accessibility and participation.
She Runs Initiative to Support 10 Women in Karachi
Under the She Runs initiative, MMC will fund a structured 10-week marathon training programme for 10 selected women from Karachi. The programme is designed to help participants develop the endurance, confidence and physical preparation needed to take on the challenge of a full marathon.
The selected runners will receive support in several key areas, including:
- Endurance training: Building stamina and preparing for long-distance running.
- Nutrition: Guidance to support training and physical performance.
- Physiotherapy: Assistance with physical preparation and recovery.
- Safety and well-being: A supportive environment throughout the programme.
By addressing these needs, She Runs seeks to make marathon running more accessible to women who may lack the resources or professional guidance required to prepare for a long-distance race.
MMC Highlights Women’s Empowerment Through Sport
Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager – HR, Admin & CSR at Mega Motor Company, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that empowering women starts with creating opportunities for them to pursue their ambitions.
She explained that the programme would provide 10 aspiring runners with structured training, guidance and support to prepare for and complete a full marathon. According to Abdullah, the initiative aims to help women challenge their limits, build confidence and achieve goals they might not previously have considered attainable.
Karachi Marathon Partnership Supports Local Athletic Talent
Shoaib Nizami, Founder of Karachi Marathon, said MMC’s continued partnership had helped advance the vision of making running a mainstream sport in Pakistan.
He added that the organisers intend to make the 2027 event bigger and more inclusive, welcoming participants of different ages and abilities while creating opportunities for aspiring runners to pursue international competitions.
Nizami also highlighted the introduction of a category for differently abled participants. He said initiatives such as She Runs support the marathon’s broader goals by helping more women prepare for the race through professional training and a safe, supportive environment.
Registrations Open for BYD Karachi Marathon 2027
The BYD Karachi Marathon 2027 will take place on January 3, bringing together participants from Pakistan and abroad across its four race categories.
Registrations are now open. Interested runners can register through the official website at www.karachimarathon.org.
Through its continued partnership with the marathon and the launch of She Runs, BYD-MMC aims to contribute to Pakistan’s growing running culture, promote greater inclusivity in sport and help local athletes pursue their ambitions. The programme also offers a practical step towards expanding women’s participation in endurance sports by combining professional preparation with dedicated support.
